The Word That Stands Forever

Theme Scripture: Isaiah 40:8 (WEB)

Reflection

The grass withers, the flower fades; but the word of our God stands forever.

Everything God made is wearing out. The grass does what grass does. It grows green, and then it withers. The flower opens, and then it fades. Isaiah is not being gloomy; he is being honest. This is the world we live in, and we feel it. Our strength fades. Seasons end. People we love are gone. The things we build grow old in our hands.

Into that honest picture, Isaiah sets one exception. The word of our God stands forever.

Notice what he does not say. He does not say our feelings stand forever, or our plans, or our best efforts. He says the word of God. This is the one thing in all creation that does not decay. It was spoken before the grass, and it will outlast the flower. It has already survived every generation that tried to live without it.

That is why this word is worth building on. A life built on our own strength lasts about as long as the grass. A life built on what God has said is built on something that will still be standing when everything else is gone.

This is not a distant, abstract comfort. It reaches right down into how you spend your day. When you choose to believe what God has said rather than how you happen to feel, you are anchoring yourself to the one thing that will not move.

And notice how practical that becomes. When you are afraid, the word says you are not alone. When you are ashamed, the word says you are forgiven. When you are exhausted, the word says your strength will be renewed. None of those promises fade with the season you happen to be in.

So let this be the foundation of the week ahead. Not your feelings about God, which change with the weather, but the word of God, which does not. Hold on to what He has said, especially on the days when everything around you looks like withering grass. The grass will pass. His word will stand.

Closing Prayer

Father, I am surrounded by things that fade, and I often build my hope on them without noticing. Teach me to build on Your word instead, the one thing that will never pass away. When my feelings change, let Your promises hold me steady. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Gentle Encouragement

Everything you can see is fading. The word of God is not. Build your life there.
