Casting Your Cares

WALKING WITH JESUS • DAY 17

Casting Your Cares

Main Scripture: 1 Peter 5:7 (WEB)

“Cast all your worries on him, because he cares for you.”

— 1 Peter 5:7 (WEB)

Opening Reflection

By now, if you have been walking with Jesus through this series, you may have noticed something: the journey is not always easy. There are burdens along the way. There are worries that creep in. There are cares that weigh heavy on the heart.

Perhaps you brought some of those cares with you today. A financial pressure. A strained relationship. A health concern. A future that feels uncertain. You have been carrying them for so long that you have almost forgotten you are carrying them.

But here is the invitation you need to hear: you were never meant to carry them alone. Walking with Jesus does not mean walking with a backpack full of burdens. It means walking with One who carries them for you.

Devotional

The Greek word Peter uses here for ‘cast’ is powerful. It means to throw something onto something else — to hurl it, to toss it with force. It is the same word used for how the disciples threw their cloaks onto the donkey for Jesus to ride. They did not gently place them. They threw them.

Peter is not suggesting that we politely hand our worries to God. He is inviting us to throw them — to release them with intention, to let go of the weight we were never meant to carry.

And notice why we can do this: ‘because He cares for you.’ Not because you are strong enough. Not because you have enough faith. Not because you have earned the right to be worry-free. Simply and profoundly because He cares for you.

God does not tolerate your worries begrudgingly. He does not sigh and accept them because He has to. He genuinely, deeply, personally cares for you. Your concerns matter to Him not because they are big, but because you are His.

Casting your cares is not a one-time event. It is a daily practice. Every morning, as you begin your walk with Jesus, there will be cares waiting for your attention. Some you picked up yesterday. Some are brand new. And every morning, you have a choice: carry them yourself, or cast them onto the One who cares for you.

The walk is lighter when we learn to let go. Letting go is not giving up — it is placing your confidence in the faithful hands of God.

Practical Application

• Identify the heaviest care you are carrying right now. Write it on a piece of paper. Place your hand on it and say aloud: “I am not meant to carry this alone.” Then give it to God in prayer.

• Practice the “exchange” today. Every time you feel a worry rising, pause and say: “Lord, I give this to You. You care for me, so I release it to You.”

• Read Matthew 6:25–34 slowly. Jesus’ teaching on worry is not a suggestion. It is a gentle command from the One who knows that worry steals the life He wants to give you.

Breath Prayer

Father, I give You this burden. I cannot carry it alone, but I trust that You can. Thank You that You care for me.

Closing Reflection

You do not honour God by pretending you are not struggling. You honour Him by bringing your struggles to Him. He is not surprised by your worries, and He is not disappointed by them. He is simply waiting — arms open, heart ready — for you to cast them onto Him.

Prayer

Father, I come to You with the cares I have been carrying. I confess that I have held onto them longer than I should have. Today I choose to cast them onto You. I release my worries about [specific concern] into Your hands. Thank You that You care for me more than I can fully understand. Lighten my load so I can walk freely with You today. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Reflection Questions

1. What cares are you carrying right now that you need to cast onto the Lord?

2. What makes it difficult for you to let go of your worries and trust God with them?

3. How might your walk with Jesus change if you truly believed that He cares for you — personally, deeply, completely?
