If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.
Jesus said this to people who were convinced they were already free. They had never been slaves to anyone, they told Him. In a political sense, they were right.
But there is a kind of captivity a free person can carry for decades without noticing. A grudge you have stopped examining. A shame you have organised your whole life around avoiding. A version of God you are still, somewhere underneath, trying to appease.
When Jesus says free indeed, the weight falls on that last word. Plenty of things loosen a chain. Time softens some wounds. Distraction buries others. Only the Son removes them, because only He can reach what the chain was actually fastened to. Free indeed is a different order of freedom. Not managed. Ended.
