Forgiving Ourselves — Prayer of the Day

Father, I have spent a long time treating my own verdict as more reliable than Yours. When You said “no condemnation”, I answered “not yet”. When You called me forgiven, I kept the file open.

I do not want to live that way any longer. So this morning I am not asking You to change Your mind. I am asking You to change mine.

Where I have confused sorrow with punishment, teach me the difference. Godly sorrow leads me back to You. Punishment leads me nowhere. Let my regret make me gentler and more careful, not smaller and more afraid.

And when the memory returns, because it will, remind me that Your verdict was not a temporary reprieve. It was final. Help me to believe that today, in the ordinary moments, and to live like someone who has actually been let go. Amen.
