Lord Jesus, I keep the towel at arm’s length. I am willing to serve in ways that get noticed, and I will lead, teach, organise and be counted. What I avoid is the low, unglamorous thing that nobody will ever know about, the work that smells of somebody else’s mess.
So show me my basin. Not the general idea of humility, but the specific thing in front of me this week. The person I have been keeping at a distance. The task I have been leaving for someone else. The apology I have been protecting myself from making.
And take away the need to be noticed. Let me be willing to do it even if not one person ever knows, because You already do. In Your name, Amen.
