Jesus answered them, “Have faith in God. For most certainly I tell you, whoever may tell this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is happening, he shall have whatever he says. Therefore I tell you, all things whatever you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and you shall have them.”
These are stunning words. Jesus says that faith can move mountains. Not metaphorically — He literally says you can speak to a mountain and it will move. This is the kind of prayer that believes God is capable of the impossible.
But we must be careful not to read these verses as a formula. Jesus is not giving us a technique to get whatever we want. He is inviting us into a relationship where we trust God’s character so deeply that our prayers align with His will. The key is not the size of your faith but the object of your faith. It is not about believing hard enough — it is about believing in a God who is powerful enough, wise enough, and good enough to be trusted with every request.
Think about what this means practically. You can pray for healing and trust God to heal. But if He does not, He is still good. You can pray for a door to open and believe it will. But if it stays closed, He is still faithful. The difference between faith and presumption is surrender. Faith says, “I believe You can, and I trust You even if You do not.” Presumption says, “I have decided what must happen, and You owe it to me.”
Faith that moves mountains is not faith that demands a specific outcome. It is faith that says, “God, I know You can do this. And I trust You even if You do not.” That is the faith that pleases God — not faith that treats Him as a vending machine, but faith that honours His wisdom and sovereignty while still believing He is able to do far more than we can ask or imagine.
Perhaps you are facing a mountain today. A relationship that seems broken beyond repair. A health concern that frightens you. A situation that looks hopeless. Jesus does not tell you to pretend the mountain is not there. He tells you to bring it to the Father with bold, confident faith — and then trust the outcome to the One who knows what is best.
Pray boldly. Trust deeply. Leave the results to God.
Prayer
Father, I bring my mountains to You today. I believe You are able to move them — every single one. But more than I trust in a specific outcome, I trust in You. You are good. You are wise. You know what I need better than I do. Give me the kind of faith that prays boldly and trusts completely, leaving the results in Your capable hands. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Encouragement
Mountain-moving faith is not a formula for getting what you want — it is deep trust in the God who can do anything and the wisdom to trust whatever He chooses.
