Let us therefore draw near with boldness to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy, and may find grace for timely help.
The writer of Hebrews gives us one of the most beautiful invitations in all of Scripture: draw near to the throne of grace with boldness. Not with timidity. Not with hesitation. Not with cowering fear. With boldness.
Why can we approach God this way? Because of Jesus. Under the old covenant, only the high priest could enter the Holy of Holies, and only once a year, with fear and trembling. The veil separated a sinful people from a holy God. But when Jesus died, the veil was torn in two. The way into God’s presence is now open to everyone who comes through Christ.
The throne of God is still a throne — He is still the King of the universe, holy and mighty. But it is a throne of grace. Not a throne of stern judgment, but a throne where mercy and grace are given freely. You do not approach a judge who is looking for reasons to reject you. You approach a Father who is looking for reasons to welcome you.
This should change how you pray. You are not begging a reluctant God to notice you. You are coming as a beloved child to a loving Father who has already opened the door. You can tell Him everything — your fears, your failures, your hopes, your questions. You can ask for help without earning it. You can receive mercy without deserving it. And you can leave His presence knowing that you have been truly heard by the King of the universe who calls you His child.
There is no sin too great that His grace cannot cover, no fear too small that He does not care about, no request too big or small that it overwhelms Him. Come just as you are. He is not shocked by your struggles or disappointed by your honesty. He already knows everything, and He welcomes you anyway. The throne of grace is open. Do not wait another moment.
Prayer
Father, thank You that because of Jesus, I can come to You with boldness. I do not have to hide or hesitate. You welcome me. Today I draw near to Your throne of grace, not with fear, but with confidence. I need Your mercy. I need Your help. And I trust that You will give both freely because You love me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Encouragement
You do not approach a judge who is looking for reasons to reject you. You approach a Father who is looking for reasons to welcome you — so come boldly.
