Walking in Love

LIVING BY THE SPIRIT — DAY 25

Walking in Love

Main Scripture: 1 Corinthians 13:4–7 (WEB)

“Love is patient and is kind. Love doesn’t envy. Love doesn’t brag, is not proud, doesn’t behave itself inappropriately, doesn’t seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil; doesn’t rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”

— 1 Corinthians 13:4–7 (WEB)

Opening Reflection

Of all the fruits of the Spirit, love is the first. It is not merely one virtue among many — it is the soil from which all the others grow.

But what does it mean to walk in love in the messy, complicated reality of daily life?

Devotional

Love is not a feeling. It is a choice, sustained by a commitment, empowered by the Spirit.

The more closely we walk with Jesus, the more His love begins to shape the way we think, speak, and respond to others.

The world tells us love is something we fall into and out of. But Scripture presents love as something we do — patiently, kindly, consistently, even when it is hard.

Paul’s description of love in 1 Corinthians 13 is a portrait of Jesus. Patient when we are slow to learn. Kind when we least deserve it. Quick to forgive. Bearing with us, believing in us, hoping for us.

Walking in love begins with the small things. It is choosing patience when you want to snap. It is speaking kindly when you want to be sharp. It is putting someone else’s needs ahead of your own.

John writes, “We love because he first loved us” (1 John 4:19). When we are secure in His love, we are free to love others without expecting anything in return.

Walking in love is not easy. It will cost you. But it is the most powerful witness of the Spirit’s work in your life. Jesus said, “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:35).

Practical Application

  • Identify one relationship where you need to walk in love more intentionally this week.
  • Before you speak to someone today, ask: “Are these words patient? Are they kind? Do they build up?”
  • If you are holding a grudge, take a step toward forgiveness today.

Breath Prayer

Breathe in: “Father, I am loved by You.”
Breathe out: “Help me to love others.”

Closing Reflection

Love is the highest calling and the clearest evidence of the Spirit’s work. Today, choose to walk in love — not perfectly, but persistently. Not in your strength, but in His.

Prayer

Father, thank You that You first loved me. Forgive me for the times I have failed to walk in love. Fill me with Your Spirit and produce in me the love that only You can give. Let my life be a witness of Your love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reflection Questions

  1. Who in your life is hardest for you to love, and what would walking in love look like today?
  2. How has experiencing God’s love changed the way you love others?
  3. What is one practical way you can show love to someone today that costs you something?
