Let’s therefore draw near with boldness to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and may find grace for timely help. — Hebrews 4:16 (WEB)
Boldness. It’s a word that makes some Christians uncomfortable. Isn’t boldness arrogant? Isn’t it presumptuous to approach the Creator of the universe with confidence?
No. It’s faith.
The Greek word here is parresia — freedom of speech, openness, confidence. It’s the same word used to describe the boldness of the early apostles who spoke the gospel without fear. It’s the confidence of a child running into their father’s arms, not because they’ve earned the right, but because they know they belong.
Notice what Hebrews does not say. It doesn’t say “draw near with hesitation.” It doesn’t say “approach with trembling uncertainty, hoping you might be received.” It says _boldness_. Because of Jesus. Because of the torn veil. Because of the sincere heart washed by His blood.
And notice _where_ we’re invited: not to a throne of judgment, but to a throne of grace. Mercy waits there, not condemnation. Grace is ready before you even ask. The throne — the symbol of absolute authority and power — is actually a place where needy people find what they most require: mercy for the past, grace for the present, help for the moment of need.
This connects directly to “The Heart That Prays” (Week 6 of our journey). Prayer is not formal recitation. It’s a child coming to a Father with confidence. When you know the throne is a throne of grace, you don’t pray cautiously — you pray expectantly.
What “timely help” do you need today? Maybe it’s wisdom for a decision, strength for a trial, patience for a difficult relationship, or simply peace in the chaos. Whatever it is, Hebrews 4:16 is your invitation: bring it boldly. Not arrogantly, as if you deserve His attention. Boldly, because Jesus deserves your confidence.
The throne is waiting. Grace is ready. Come boldly.

Father, thank You that Your throne is not a place of fear but of grace. I come boldly today — not because of who I am, but because of who Jesus is and what He has done. I need mercy. I need grace. I need help. And I know You are ready to give all three. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
